Fr. Stephen Freeman: The Slow Work of Grace

Today I direct your attention to a post from Fr. Stephen Freeman.  Freeman is one of the largest and most influential Eastern Orthodox bloggers, and he blogs at Glory to God for All Things.  This post is entitled “The Slow Work of Grace“.

We are accustomed to thinking of grace as a legal concept, something which takes effect immediately.  Sometimes grace has that sudden effect, as in the repentant thief on the cross, but more often than not it is a much slower and longer haul.  Grace works at a level proper to human beings; it takes time because our development as human beings takes time.
