I am not afraid to indulge in a little shameless self-promotion now and then, so I am going to share a post I just did over at Life in Mordor, the blog of Mike F. where I periodically appear as a guest contributor. It is a reflection on Mark 6:1-6 entitled “Jesus Whose Power is Cloaked Under Weakness“. The idea here is that the people of Nazareth failed to recognize Jesus because of his ordinariness, his next-door-ness. We have this Platonic idea that holy = perfect. We think that the holy ought to glow like it’s radioactive. When holiness doesn’t look like it should, we can’t recognize it. And so the people of Nazareth failed to recognize Jesus.
