The purpose of this post is to disavow you people once and for all of the insane notion that Louisiana and Mississippi are back to normal, because they are not–not by any stretch of the imagination. If you think that they are, then you need to think again. These pictures will show you quite clearly that this is not the case.
UPDATE: I have reduced the file size of these photos by resampling them to 200 DPI. Hopefully these shouldn’t take quite as long to download.

Downtown Gulfport. Note the remains of the Grand Casino off in the distance.
An up-close view of the remains of the Grand Casino.
Lunch, anyone? Let’s stop at McDonald’s–what’s left of it.
Somewhere between Gulfport and Long Beach. Oh wait–that is Long Beach!!!!!
Downtown Pass Christian. That piece of metal paneling standing up in the water off in the distance (to the left of the tree in the foreground) is all that is left of the Yacht Club.
St. Paul’s Catholic Church in downtown Pass Christian was built to withstand a major hurricane. And it did. Except for a little bit of damage near the front of the building, it appears to have come through the storm relatively intact.
A shrimpboat lies back in the weeds behind St. Louis Avenue, about four blocks away from the Gulf.
St. Louis Avenue. Bear in mind that this was once a residential street, several blocks away from the waterfront.
I have many more pictures to show you, but in deference to those of you who may be bandwidth-challenged, I will break it off here. Stay tuned for future installments.
